Required:
If you are new to boating then this guide will be of great help to you. CRT_BoatersHandbook
All boats normally require a valid CRT license, a valid Boat Safety Scheme certificate, and current Survey unless exempted.
(Canals and River trust regularly check licenses at the marina as part of their work.)
All boats must be adequately and currently insured by a reputable broker.
Please make sure your boat electronic communication equipment is properly licensed/registered where required.
Your boat is your responsibility. Make sure it is tied up and secured properly after every visit, and please leave it in good, tidy and clean order when you leave. Make sure fuel is turned off along with electrical isolators before leaving the marina.
Please behave courteously and considerately towards other marina and canal and river users. Respect their needs in the same way you would wish them to behave towards you. Enjoy yourselves by all means but keep the noise to socially acceptable levels.
Abusive language and/or behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Respect the marina environment and the wildlife that lives along side us. Deal with any rubbish immediately, properly and safely.
If your boat is fitted with a sea toilet it must not be discharged into the marina or canal or river system under any circumstances. (Your nearest pump-out station is at the CRT station at Boroughbridge. Water points and sewage disposal | Boating services)
The discharging black water from your boat is unacceptable regardless of circumstances and how ever done.
Report any oil, chemical or fuel spillage immediately so we can take the necessary preventative and restorative action required.
Remember fuel costs money. Keep engine use down to a necessary minimum to reduce inappropriate emissions and noise.
It is possible in future months that you will be asked to sign a mooring agreement to acknowledge that you understand the ethos of the Marina and will abide by its guidelines. More information on this will be available soon.
Advisory:
River levels are worth checking on a regular basis. Go to River Ouse level at Viking Recorder - GOV.UK
Make sure you have enough fuel for your journey and have checked oil levels, etc., in your engine.
Make sure you have spare fuel, and a working tool kit and a few essential spare to effect a repair if needed.
Check your boat over thoroughly before leaving your berth. Check the cassette toilet doesn't need emptying too.
Plan your route and make sure in advance there are no hold ups along your route. Notices and stoppages | Canal & River Trust
Make sure your mobile phone is fully charged so you can contact someone in the event of an emergency.
Make sure you have enough food, clothing and water onboard in the event you have to spend an unexpected night on your boat.
Make sure all passengers on your boat are aware of safety procedures and know how to put on a life jacket should it be needed.
Make sure your boat engine is regularly and properly serviced. Know who to contact if you break down.
Do not set off on a journey if you have any concerns.
Remember when you are on the water, you are on your own for the most part and have, in the first instance, to take responsibility for your self and passengers.
Desired:
Make sure boating is always enjoyable and fun and you end the day with few regrets.
Make friends, enjoy life, appreciate what is good and look after your boat so it always looks after you.
An open bottle of wine or mug of tea always comes in handy and is always welcome.
In the Marina:
Barbeques and similar are allowed providing they are safely sited and not left unattended, the site left tidy and rubbish/food free, and not cause other boaters nuisance* or obstruct access on walkways and jetties.
(*The simplest solution if you have any concerns is to invite those boaters closest to you to your event.)
Pets (other than those covered by the Dangerous Animals Act) are welcome providing owners take responsibility for them and that they are not a nuisance or danger to others. Dogs should be kept on a lead and all fouling picked up immediately and disposed of in a suitable bin.
Our marina cat has perks and privileges over all visiting animals. Treat him with care and affection.
Children should be supervised at all times. The Marina can be a dangerous and hazardous environment and you are responsible for your own children's welfare, safety and behaviour. Please ensure that you take the appropriate precautions.
With this in mind, leisure swimming in the Marina, unless part of an officially organised and supervised event, is not allowed.
If you have a vehicle then please park considerately. You are responsible for your vehicle at all times and the Marina will not accept liability if your vehicle is damaged, vandalised, stolen, broken into or tampered with. Abandoned vehicles will be removed and costs recovered.
Equally, the same applies to abandoned boats and trailers and they will be removed and costs legally recovered.
Fishing is not allowed unless you are a current club member operating in your club's demarked and licensed fishing areas. Remember you need to have a currently licenced rod and your rod license should always be available if needed to be checked.
Camping on site is not allowed.
As a general rule if you can leave the Marina in the same as or better order than you found it then we will all benefit.
Please ensure that the Marina gates are locked to maintain security and treat all our facilities with respect and care. Please look after them so others can enjoy them too.
If you wish to volunteer some of your time at the Marina for one of our general maintenance or upgrade projects, please ask. We would be delighted to have you on board.
